OUR MISSION
We work in collaboration with Namaste Sailung - Nepal based in Kathmandu, with people from Ukhubaari near Charikot (about 135 km east of Kathmandu) in Dolakha district.
Our missions are:
Make ourselves known and the villages we support by bringing volunteers/travelers to these villages, because on top of meeting wonderful people... there are so many beautiful places to discover in Dolakha district. Help is always welcome, if not necessary, in the schools and the farms, as well as school gear and other goods that you may want to carry with you for these people.
Our second main action is to raise funds to help people develop and grow in order to be self-sufficient. This results into campaigns on social medias or partnerships with other associations, or the search for sponsors to create access to education for the most deprived (orphans or even low-caste families). We therefore organize sponsorships between a sponsor and a child in order to offer a good education to orphans or children from modest or really poor families.
On the ground, we use our donations by offering basic products such as food, clothing and school materials to schools for children whose families have difficulty meeting basic needs.
However, our goal is ultimately to provide village residents with courses in practical agricultural techniques, so that they develop the skills and resources necessary to finance their own self-sufficiency. We will also focus on improving infrastructure and educational conditions for students and teachers by providing equipment and building improvements, with the help of scholarships and donations. All our objectives will be achieved with the greatest respect for local culture, in harmony with the community and the environment.
HISTORY
NAMASTE! My name is Fabien and I would like to tell you the story of how Namaste Sailung came to be. In 2019, due to circumstances in my personal life, I felt an urge to give something back to the world, and I started looking into international volunteer positions. I was drawn to Nepal and wanted to contribute by teaching english to a community group. Through my research on social media, I came into contact with Hélène married to Anup a nepalese tour guide and they told me about the village where he comes from in the Dolakha district, which always welcome the help of a volunteer to help the children learn english at their school.
After a month teaching english at Ukhubaari school to children (aged between 2 and 9) it was quite challenging in these basic conditions and dealing with language barriers, it was simultaneously a life changing experience due to the beautiful and kind hearted souls of the people living in the village. The children I taught were an inspiration, filled with joy, while living with so little, and I passionately wanted to help them have the best opportunities they could in life. When I finished my time in Ukhubaari the people I met, stayed in my heart, and I wanted to continue to help them as much as I could from abroad. I started Namaste Sailung with Anup, as a way to connect future volunteers and donors with the people of Ukhubaari and potentially expand into other towns and villages around.
